Southern Book Festival Highlights!

Aloha, Friends!

I had a fantastic time in Nashville.

I made many new friends this weekend, including Tacky the Penguin, whom I’ve been a fan of for years, and Marion and Jack, two amazing book festival volunteers, who took the time to come to our session!

I so loved panel-ing with Cynthia Lord and Gail Nall and our moderator Jane-Elise at the Nashville Public Library! What a gorgeous place. Words carved in stone in the reading room say: A city with a great library is a great city. Yes! The beautiful book sculpture outside is titled La Storia della Terra, The Story of the Earth, with stones from five continents.

Two more highlights: Seeing Nashville 27-stories up. And 2015 Newbery Medalist Kwame Alexander’s inspiring talk.

Special thanks to Helen Hemphill, Rae Ann Parker, Genetta Adair, Lindsey LaneCarmen Oliver and organizers Serenity Gerbman and Lacey Cook. Thank you, thank you Southern Festival of Books for a fantastic event!

Texas Book Festival news!

Aloha, Friends!

I hope everyone had a fantastic summer! It’s starting to feel a bit like Fall around Austin this month. Hooray for cooler temps!

I’m honored to announce that I’ll be a featured author at the 20th Texas Book Festival next month! The celebrations will take place in and around the Texas State Capitol on October 17-18. The organizers are finalizing the panels and places now. As soon as I know more, I’ll share!

To see the lineup of 300 (!) authors, check out the Texas Book Festival website.

Aloha,

Anne

Happy Summer!

Hello, Friends,

I hope you are having a fabulous summer! I had the great good fortune of returning to the Vermont College of Fine Arts last month for an Alumni Mini-Residency. It was so, so wonderful to be back on campus, reconnect with classmates and faculty, meet my agent in person, and make new friends.

I’m all filled up and ready to jump back into a new revision of a manuscript. So off I go to the writing cave.

Happy 4th of July! Happy Summer!

Always,

Anne

Book Launch Party Happiness!

Aloha, Friends,

Thanks to everyone who was at BookPeople last Sunday, in person and in spirit, to celebrate Anywhere but Paradise!

Mahalo nui loa. Thank you very much.

Akiko White, cakelustrator extraordinarie, created a most fabulous cake! Vivian, an incredible hula dancer from Island Rhythms , graced the stage. My dear friend and talented author, Kathi Appelt, introduced me. And another wonderful friend and super author, Deb Gonzales, creator of the Educator Guide for the novel, led a fun activity.

I made palm tree cookies to add to the refreshment table and talked about growing up in Hawaii before signing books.

It was a dream come true day!

And I am exceedingly grateful!

Always,

Anne
